IRMA VOTH

(I may have laughed at the idea of an instruction book for this blog - but i totally see the point. It has taken me 20 minutes just to get signed in.)

I love Miriam Toews, so i hope she doesn't disappoint with Irma Voth. if nothing else, we can eat good food, drink good wine, and have great conversation. If you don't remember (and why should you?), I live at 840 Norton Avenue in the Lincoln Fields area. I have yet to confirm the date but will keep you posted as everyone responds.

enjoy the snow.

Book Club at Titi's - August 23rd (6ish)

Hello ladies,

The next book club is at my place - 18 Barrie Avenue. (http://maps.google.ca/maps?q=18+barrie+avenue+ottawa&rls=com.microsoft:en-us:IE-SearchBox&oe=UTF-8&rlz=1I7DACA_en-GB&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hq=&hnear=0x4cce042fe3219b09:0xcb9758a6cf8af437,18+Barrie+Ave,+Ottawa,+ON+K1Y+1W2&gl=ca&ei=lxAwTo0F6KWwApLr9E8&sa=X&oi=geocode_result&ct=title&resnum=1&ved=0CBkQ8gEwAA)

We've only just moved in and are realizing that with such a little family member, settling in will be a challenge (ie. it's going to look a mess so let's hope that we can sit outside in the garden!)

The book: Any book with the word "Fall" in the title.
Food theme: Fall food (although I'm hoping it's a nice summer evening)
Time: Come by anytime after 6pm. We'll aim to eat and discuss by 6:30.

I am going to make a vegetarian autumn curry of some sort and will seek out the most perfect bottle of Fall wine.

See you here!

Titi

Book Club on May 1 will celebrate Carol Shields. I have included a list of her books, but I would suggested focusing on the last 3 (Stone Diaries, Larry's Party and Unless). I have copies of all 3, and I have read the first 2 fairly recently, if anyone wants to borrow either one.

Food theme: TBA

Here is a list:
▪ Small Ceremonies, 1976

▪ The Box Garden, 1977 (Later published in a joint edition with Small Ceremonies as Duet)

▪ Happenstance, 1980

▪ A Fairly Conventional Woman, 1982

▪ Swann: A Mystery, 1987 (UK title: Mary Swann)

▪ A Celibate Season, 1991 (with Blanche Howard)

▪ The Republic of Love, 1992

▪ The Stone Diaries, 1993 (winner of the Governor General's Award,

National Book Critics Circle Award, and the Pulitzer Prize)

The Lacuna - March 30, 2011

Hello fellow book lovers,

The next book to read and discuss is The Lacuna, by Barbara Kingsolver. I hope you're enjoying it. As it's based mostly in Mexico, it'll go without saying that the theme of our next rendezvous will be Mexican.

Please join me and other book lovers at my place Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at 6:30pm.

I will make veggie quesidillas and have some tortilla chips and salsa as a tapa (did I mention everything will be in spanish too?)

Looking forward to seeing you all!
