Book Club on May 1 will celebrate Carol Shields. I have included a list of her books, but I would suggested focusing on the last 3 (Stone Diaries, Larry's Party and Unless). I have copies of all 3, and I have read the first 2 fairly recently, if anyone wants to borrow either one.

The Lacuna - March 30, 2011

Hello fellow book lovers,

The next book to read and discuss is The Lacuna, by Barbara Kingsolver. I hope you're enjoying it. As it's based mostly in Mexico, it'll go without saying that the theme of our next rendezvous will be Mexican.

This is for the Martin-hosted book club, and the book is "Beatrice and Virgil" by Yann Martel.The food theme is "Breakfast for Dinner" as I hear from my husband the book has kind of a twist ending. I'll cook up some bacon and eggs and perhaps taters. The Solitude of Prime Numbers - November 28th, 2010

This coming Sunday, it is my turn to host our Book Club! So join me at 840 Norton Avenue (near Lincoln Fields) at 6:30pm. I hope no one is allergic to animals - Shannon will entertain the dogs elsewhere, but de-animal-ifying my place might be an impossible task.

As you know - we are reading The Solitude of Prime Numbers by Paolo Giordano and just to be weird, the food theme is "lonely food". what do you eat when you are lonely?

I will provide the wine and the wine substitutes, and will also be thinking of another entree to serve. given that it is Monday night though, i don't have much brain power to figure it out tonight.

Hello everyone, it's Danielle, remember me???

I’m still in the book club, promise, and I will be at our next meeting at Kim’s for sure.

The Book: The meeting that is to follow has me as the host. I’ve chosen the book The Rum Diary by Hunter S. Thompson. Maybe let me know if you’ve already read it.
This is being made in to a movie (starring my boyfriend, Johnny Depp) so I was thinking we could watch the movie once it comes out – in 2011.

The Date: October 24, 6:30 pm. Be there or be square!

Food Theme: Seeing as the book takes place in Puerto Rico, I was thinking maybe we could have a Caribbean theme. ??? I'll do my research and update this post with some options.
